Mc-scorpion King Collectors Edition [dvd] [movie Cash]-nla There’s nothing original in The Scorpion King, but this derivative action franchise gets off to a rousing start by cleverly stealing from a lot of better movies. Capitalizing on his brief cameo in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. World Wrestling Federation star the Rock) stars as Mathayus, an Akkadian assassin in the age preceding Egyptian pharaohs, who vows to avenge his brother’s murder by an undefeated warlord (Steven Brand) prophesied to become the desert-ruling Scorpion King. Their battle for supremacy comprises most of the film’s brisk 95-minute running time, punctuated by comic relief from Mathayus’s obligatory sidekick (Grant Heslov), romance with a beautiful sorceress (Kelly Hu), and alliance with a massive Nubian (Michael Clarke Duncan) on the eve of their climactic showdown. There’s no rhyme or reason to the film’s depiction of ancient civilization (the costuming is particularly ludicrous), but the Rock demonstrates adequate action-star potential, and director Chuck Russell (The Mask) wraps it all in a slick, professional package. –Jeff Shannon
Customer Review: An enjoyable film that got action, comedy and a love story…
Dwayne Johnson plays a natural-born hero called Mathayus… He starts off as an Akkadian mercenary crossing the ancient lands looking for his brother who is slain before his blazing eyes by a Nordic barbarian horde whose name is Memnon…

What has kept the vicious tyrant as the absolute conqueror of the land is the fact that he has a visionary sorceress by his side who knows when he should attack his enemies… Mathayus finds out that she’s a sexy gorgeous woman who looks amazingly beautiful (Surely the audience is teased ceaselessly by her cleavage-revealing…). So Mathayus forgets his commission to kill her, and a kind of romance begins to flourish between the two as he tries to carry out his assignment…

Kelly Hu plays Cassandra, the female sorcerer who had beauty, charisma, cleverness, and enigma… In the beginning of the film, we’re not quite sure where she stands… But when she first sees Mathayus, she’s interested in the well-mannered warrior who’s strong, brave, loyal and sincere… She realizes that he might me the future king who can save her from her power-mad jailer…

As the ruthless conqueror, Memnon (Steven Brand) has got all of the skills needed to attain global domination… He has also got the force and the will to accomplish it… The combination was pretty scary…

Michael Clarke Duncan plays the fearsome Balthazar, the Nubian King, the strong ally of Mathayus…

Chuck Russell’s “The Scorpion King” is a visual feast, and an entertaining action film… It has sexy harem girls, poison arrows, quicksand, an army of red ants, black scorpions, cobras, explosions, and a lot of fun… So don’t miss it!
Customer Review: A good entertainment for a rainy afternoon!
“Scorpion King” picks up and maintains faithfully the basic structure of the epic tale, but constructed with a smart dose of acidic humour and double sense vignettes. There are common places and stereotypes like the smart young boy and the unerring and opportunistic “fool”, the beauty protagonist, the brutal villain. There are also, marvellous action sequences – specially the great explosive final – that makes it worth to watch it.

SYNOPSIS
Richard is a spoiled happy go lucky guy who finds it hard to appreciate the refined interests of his “sosyal” and cultured girlfriend (Isabel). One day, Richard attends a stag party of his friend and Marianne pops out of a cake. (Marianne was only a stand in for that gig…she does not really dance at stag parties except this one instance due to money problems.) Being drunk, he hounds her and kisses her and is surprised when she slaps him. She storms out of the stag party but not before demanding full payment for her services.

Meanwhile, Mark (Richard’s best friend from childhood) comes home from a month long trip from the US . He reveals to Richard that he has a girlfriend but he is not ready to introduce her to his other friends and family because he is ashamed of her lower social status. But he tells Richard that his girlfriend is a very decent girl and that he will introduce her to him. When they are introduced, Richard is shocked to find out that Marianne is the girlfriend of Mark!

He does not reveal to Mark, though, that Marianne was the stripper at the stag party he attended. But deep inside, he doubts whether Marianne is being honest and transparent to Mark about her real character. Richard bides his time and decides to probe some more about Marianne’s true character before blowing her cover. Marianne, on the other hand, is nervous because she is afraid that Richard might reveal her secret to Mark.

News of the stag party incident reaches Isabel and she breaks up with Richard. Richard’s ego is hurt and he vows to do whatever it takes to win back Isabel. Mark suggests that he get a girl to pose as his new girlfriend to make Isabel jealous.

Customer Review: Not bad
I’m in my second trimester. I practiced Pilates to relieve lower back pain before conceiving and was disappointed when I realized I couldn’t continue beyond my first trimester since most of the exercises have you lying flat on your back. This video, however, shows modifications so that I can continue doing the exercises I love. True, it’s not as intense as regular Pilates, but the point now is to maintain fitness and relieve aches and pains, not to make fitness gains. I find that I get a good workout if I do the second trimester sequence twice (20 minutes total) and really focus on the muscles I’m working. I had started to re-experience lower back pain when I had to stop regular Pilates but thanks to this video, it’s starting to fade. I think this video would be best for women who’ve had some Pilates experience since the instructor doesn’t talk much about technique, but beginners could still benefit.
Customer Review: Safe but not a real workout
The video definitely shows safe techniques, but lacks any type of intensity. I was bored and did not feel that I had any type of workout. The stretches were nice and the tape is relaxing, but that is not why I bought it.
