The Rugrats Movies DVD Collection (Sale)

The Rugrats Movies DVD Collection This collection contains the first two Rugrats feature films:

The Rugrats Movie
The first theatrical film from the popular Nickelodeon TV series became the surprise hit of the 1998 holiday box-office crunch, trouncing the highly competitive kids’ market. The key ingredient to the Rugrats’ success is the writing. Venturing into their first theatrical movie, the pals–including the intrepid diaper-wearing Tommy Pickles, the nervous Chuckie, the twins Lil and Phil, and the wonderfully prissy Angelica–garble English into funny prose (“I want those fugitives back in custard-y!”) and use movie references in their fantasy life.

The big news for the movie is that Tommy gets a new baby brother, named Dylan (or Dil for short). The rest of the film has no real plot but is a series of adventures as the clan gets lost in the forest riding an inventive Reptar wagon that is the ’90s equivalent of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Parents search for the kids, the kids learn new lessons, and everyone goes home happy. The Rugrats Movie is not as wildly appealing as A Bug’s Life but is far goofier and wackier with its animation. There’s also a tremendous sense of joy that is often missing from cartoons these days, and the songs used in the film–from such diverse musicians as Busta Rhymes, Iggy Pop, Lisa Loeb, Lou Rawls, Beck, and Devo–add to the fun. It’s an acquired taste, but the creators’ first efforts to take the 10-minute TV sketches into an 80-minute feature pay off.

Rugrats in Paris: The Movie
The second theatrical film from the popular TV show is better than the original surprise hit. Instead of delving into their rich fantasy life, the Rugrats gang goes on a real adventure when their families visit Paris together. Mr. Pickles is brought over to fix his giant Reptar robot, the centerpiece of EuroReptarland (a biting version of the trouble-plagued EuroDisney). The underlying story has Chuckie (the one with the square glasses) looking for a new mommy, as his dad (who has a square personality) starts to fall for a villainous executive (voiced by Susan Sarandon). Soon Paris takes it on the chin as the diaper gang tries to save Chuckie’s dad from the altar. The success of the Rugrats is in the writing, where much thought goes into finding comic gems for the adults (there are wonderful parodies of The Godfather and King Kong that will sail over kids’ heads). The garble-mouthed youngsters keep up their joyful ways in this 78-minute feature that feels no different from their Nickelodeon series except in length, some 3-D animation sequences, and an eclectic song score (with Cyndi Lauper’s “I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever” the real catch). (Ages 6 and older) –Doug Thomas
Customer Review: Rug rat collection must have!!!

This collection is wonderful. My first born, now 10, grew up with these cartoons, and never stopped loving them! Now my 3 year old can’t get enough! I wished they’d start writing them again. (you know they’re really for me right?)
Customer Review: cute, adorable and funny
Rugrats are so cute and sweet. Many hours of family fun. I watch it myself when I just want something to relax by and don’t feel like changing the DVD.

Customer Review: Transformers G1 DVD set
This set will give you flashbacks! My 34 year old brother-in-law and my 5 year old son were glued to the tv when we put this on. The only drawback is that the box and dvd menu were in chinese, (this was the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars), but simple enough to navigate. The shows went straight to the english dialogue (all original shows). China must have the rights to this! Jerks!
Customer Review: transformers
Excellent old movies of original transformers, brings back a lot of memories for my kids.

Scooby-Doo – The Movie [HD DVD] (Sale)

Scooby-Doo – The Movie [HD DVD] “I would’ve gotten away with it if weren’t for you meddling kids!” Equal parts remake and spoof, this tongue-in-cheek live-action resurrection finds the old Saturday-morning-cartoon gang reunited to investigate the zombie teens of a haunted amusement park. Frantic action and big-screen special effects stand in for logic, but for a while it makes for a spirited send-up. Freddie Prinze Jr., under a blond hairdo and an ascot, turns Fred into a preening pretty boy, and Sarah Michelle Gellar plays with her own Buffy image as eternal damsel-in-distress Daphne (in magenta mini-dress and maxi-boots, no less), but this show belongs to gangly Matthew Lillard, who is the adenoidal beatnik Shaggy. His loyal-to-the-end friendship with the computer-animated Scooby-Doo is the most convincing relationship in the whole two-dimensional goof. Some of the supernatural nasties may be scary for young kids and the humor careens from winking self-awareness to Scooby doo-doo gags, but otherwise this is as harmless as a Saturday-morning chapter and as substantial as a Scooby snack. –Sean Axmaker
Customer Review: Waste of celluloid
If I could give this movie zero stars I would! Thank God somebody gave this to us. Those of you who have given it five stars must have been payed to do so. While enduring the torture of watching this crap-fest I was left pondering several points. First, did someone loose a bet? Second, did the director cash in every favor he was owed? And lastly how did they manage to make Freddy Prinzes hair look blonde instead of orange? Parents beware! This movie is comprized mainly with toilet humor. Do not be suprized when (after the umpteenth viewing) you hear your child shout to their sibling, “No, your mom eats cat poop!” Blessedly, mine have lost interest and now watch better things (with a little help from me!).
Customer Review: Scooby-Doo Blu-Ray Version
I bought the Blu-Ray version because it was a reasonable price and I already had a full-screen copy of the DVD that drove me nuts to watch on a widescreen TV. This pretty much says I already enjoyed the flick. It’s mindless and fun, and that’s what makes it entertaining.

There is definitely better picture quality with the Blu-Ray version when compared to the standard DVD. There is far more pixelating in the standard DVD that is non-existent in the Blu-Ray version. But, the Blu-Ray version is not as flawless as it should be. Any flaws existing in the original film at the time of transfer (or flaws created during the transfer itself) will make their way to the high-def disc.

I noticed a lot of very “active” backgrounds in many of the early scenes. So much so, it’s almost distracting. At one point, Shaggy’s green shirt even seems to be “moving”. But, later in the movie, everything looks stable and sharp as Blu-Ray should be. This suggests to me that either the original movie has some flaws, or the there was some kind of issue with the transfer process itself. Maybe there’s some kind of compression going on???

All in all though, for $14 from Amazon, I would still recommend the Blu-Ray version. Just go into it without an image of perfection. Sit back, don’t be critical and enjoy the flick.

Customer Review: Blondie Collectors edition dvds
I bought this dvd collection for my wife. My wife and I love these classic movies! They are the Best!BLONDIE-COLLECTORS EDITION-9 DISC BOXED SET-28 MOVIES W/ INTERACTIVE DVD MOTION MENUS
Customer Review: Good Movies – Fairly Good Copies
I have waited for years for the complete Blondie series. I was not disappointed. However, the DVD seems to consist of DVD from video with curious occasional timing adjustments. It was claimed the sound was enhanced, but I believe the timing adjustments may have been made to synch the video and sound.

While the effect was strange, if you are the kind of person who wants the Blondie movies you will be the kind of person who will put up with the timing adjustments just to enjoy the opportunity to have them.

The Adventures of Indiana Jones – The Complete DVD Movie Collection (Full Screen Edition) (Sale)

The Adventures of Indiana Jones – The Complete DVD Movie Collection (Full Screen Edition) As with Star Wars, the George Lucas-produced Indiana Jones trilogy was not just a plaything for kids but an act of nostalgic affection toward a lost phenomenon: the cliffhanging movie serials of the past. Episodic in structure and with fate hanging in the balance about every 10 minutes, the Jones features tapped into Lucas’s extremely profitable Star Wars formula of modernizing the look and feel of an old, but popular, story model. Steven Spielberg directed all three films, which are set in the late 1930s and early ’40s: the comic book-like Raiders of the Lost Ark, the spooky, Gunga Din-inspired Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the cautious but entertaining Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Fans and critics disagree over the order of preference, some even finding the middle movie nearly repugnant in its violence. (Pro-Temple of Doom people, on the other hand, believe that film to be the most disarmingly creative and emotionally effective of the trio.) One thing’s for sure: Harrison Ford’s swaggering, two-fisted, self-effacing performance worked like a charm, and the art of cracking bullwhips was probably never quite the iconic activity it soon became after Raiders. Supporting players and costars were very much a part of the series, too–Karen Allen, Sean Connery (as Indy’s dad), Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan, Amrish Puri, Denholm Elliot, River Phoenix, and John Rhys-Davies among them. Years have passed since the last film (another is supposedly in the works), but emerging film buffs can have the same fun their predecessors did picking out numerous references to Hollywood classics and B-movies of the past. –Tom Keogh
Customer Review: You can’t go wrong with Indiana Jones
This is not blue ray by any means, however, it has good audio. The special effects are a little cheesy. I was hoping that they would have cleaned it up a little. My main reason for buying this box set… I’m going to pull out the extras disk and put the newest DVD in its place. Making it a cost effective boxed set.
Customer Review: Amazing Adventure Stories
After a long wait, this box set finally came out on DVD in October of 2003 and it looks great! Now, the next step will be to see these fun movies on Blu-Ray!

All three Indiana Jones stories were entertaining but the first one – Raiders Of The lost Ark – was still the best. Over 25 years later, it still has some very memorable scenes, like the opening one with the gigantic boulder chasing Harrison Ford to the ending scene with the Ark of the Convenant opened.

Years from now, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is still considered one of the great adventure films of all time. The action scenes are varied. You get fist fights, battles with snakes, with airplane propellers, guns, knives, poison dates, fires, supernatural plague-type winds, chases through city streets, caves, mountains….you name it, it’s all in here.

The next two Indiana films were almost as good, and certainly very entertaining. I’ve come to really appreciate “Temple Of Doom,” which gets better with each viewing (especially the cinematography) and I always enjoy seeing Ford and Sean Connery together in “Last Crusade.”
